Tønnisgård is an old captain's farm from Rømø's golden age. The original part of the building dates far back in history.
In the 1600s and early 1700s, several captains from Rømø commanded large whaling ships on trade journeys and long whaling expeditions in the North Atlantic. The captains brought wealth to many of the island's families and, among other things, built the beautiful captain's farms on the island.
The two-winged, thatched farmhouse is beautifully restored and an experience in itself.
In 2017, we built a fire hut with a stone oven, campfire stove, and grill. It accommodates both large and small groups when we gratinate oysters in the stone oven or grill lamb sausages for Wadden Sea hotdogs with foraged herbs from the coastal meadow.
