Rømø is an island located in the southwestern part of Denmark and is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful nature and long, wide sandy beaches. One of the most exciting activities available on Rømø is exploring the tidal flats, also known as the Wadden Sea.
The Wadden Sea is a unique natural area that stretches 500 km along the Waddenseacost from Blåvand in the north to Den Helder in the south. It is one of the largest tidal areas in the world and is home to a rich wildlife. One of the best ways to experience the Wadden Sea is by participating in guided tours and activities, and here, Naturcenter Tønnisgård offers a wide range of exciting tours for both children and adults.
Tønnisgård offers a variety of exciting tours and educational activities for children, families, and adults. For the little ones, there are bunker tours tailored for children, where stories about the area and its past inhabitants are told in a fun and creative way, right in the middle of Tvismark plantation. Children can also build their own kites in our Kite Building activity. Wadden Sea expeditions tailored for children are another great option for kids who want to get a feel for the Wadden Sea. Here, they can explore nature's creatures and learn about the unique ecosystem of the Wadden Sea.
Families can enjoy tours such as "Catch Creatures tour - on land, in water, and in the air" and shrimp catching on the beach, where curiosity can be explored, and the inner "field biologist" can run free. There are also creative activities, such as decorating mussel shells and snail shells. If you enjoy good food, you can experience an authentic taste of delicious Wadden Sea hot dogs.
For adults, an oyster gourmet tour might be a perfect activity. On this tour, participants get to engage in the entire process from picking oysters to cooking and serving, before enjoying them with a fine sparkling wine. Another option could be to sign up for Amber Grinding, where we make beautiful jewelry and stones out of it.
No matter your age or interests, there is something for everyone at Naturcenter Tønnisgård.
As a tourist on Rømø, you can experience a wide range of activities and nature experiences.
