We are based in an old thatched commander’s farm that exudes culture and nature.
Here you can visit our exhibition on nature between the “Wadden Sea and the North Sea” and learn about the formation of Rømø, how amber is formed, who the secret inhabitants of the beach are, watch a film about the dam and the hard work that went into building it, and much more. If you’re a child, our exhibition is also great fun to visit, as there are lots of little tasks to solve throughout it.
The exhibition was originally created in Danish and German, and an English translation has since been produced as well.
2026 is your last chance to see our current exhibition. Because exciting things are happening here over the next few years, and in 2028 we’ll be ready to open our doors to a brand-new exhibition – you’ve got plenty to look forward to!
We have a small shop with everything from local produce and beautiful handmade amber jewellery to books, bird-shaped mugs and identification charts for bird feathers found on the beach. So whether you’re looking for a little holiday souvenir, a gift or a tasty treat, we’ve got it.
We’re also always on hand to answer any questions you might have, whether it’s tips on a good birding spot, picking up a walking map or a tip on where to get a delicious ice cream.
And last but not least, we have a range of fun creative activities you can dive into if you fancy a day indoors. You can polish your own beautiful piece of amber jewellery, build a kite to test out in the wind on Lakolk beach, build your own insect hotel, or make lovely figures out of mussel shells and other fun beach finds. So even on a rainy day, there are plenty of great activities at Tønnisgård.
