Make a real difference for the natural world
It is estimated that there are already around 150 million tonnes of waste floating in the ocean, with a further 6 million tonnes being discharged every year. Around three-quarters of this waste is plastic, which takes nature half a century to break down.
Nature is the very foundation of our lives, no more and no less.
That is why it is, of course, distressing that rubbish is left behind in the natural world around us. Yet it feels good to be part of a beach clean-up. Not only can you help leave nature a little cleaner, but you will hopefully also come away with a few wonderful nature experiences. Because on the walk, there’s a nature guide along who’s ready to tell fascinating stories about all the other exciting beach finds you’ll also come across on a trip like this. Find out, for example, what the egg clumps from the conch are, the calcareous shells from the cuttlefish, or how to tell the difference between a shark egg and a ray egg. All things you’re bound to have found many times on a beach walk, but perhaps don’t know the stories behind.
We’ll meet at the Tønnisgård Nature Centre and drive from there in our own cars to an area where rubbish needs to be collected.
After the trip, we’ll gather for a cup of coffee or tea and a biscuit whilst we look at the day’s finds.
