It is quite an exceptional experience to head out onto the mudflats to gather oysters. Here the landscape opens up so you are able to "stretch" your eyes, and while picking oysters you might even be lucky to enjoy the sight of migratory birds and seals.
The Wadden Sea is known as a rich and abundant pantry. In particular the many migratory birds benefit from the copious amounts of food, but also the invasive Pacific Oyster has quickly settled in here. In recent years, Pacific Oysters have spread massively in the Wadden Sea, where they have particularly good growth and spawning conditions. So now not only birds, but also people who have developed a taste for the delicate shellfish, migrate to the Wadden Sea.
On the tour you will get good advice and guidance about gathering, handling, storing, opening and preparing oysters. Along the way the guide will also tell a little about the biology, backbround and history of the famous shellfish, but also about the extraordinary landscape in which we move around.
If the weather allows it, we will already have the first tasty treats fresh on the flats.
The Nature Center Tønnisgård reserves the right to cancel the trip with 1 day's notice due to weather conditions. In this case, the tour price will be refunded, excluding ticket/transaction fees. For ticket refunds, cancellations must be made at least 14 days before the start of the tour.
